John Richard Muir

John R. Muir is the Managing Partner of Trusted Strategies, an advisory firm that since 2003 has provided investment and market research expertise in the IT security sector. He has more than 25 years of very successful senior management experience in private and public IT security firms, including Enigma Logic and Pointsec Mobile Technologies, both of which he co-founded, and as VP of the Authentication Division of Secure Computing.

Mr. Muir also currently serves as Senior Vice President of the Security Innovation Network, (SINET) a non-profit organization that fosters closer collaboration between the public and private sectors to improve IT security. SINET organizes the IT Security Entrepreneurs Forum at Stanford University, the premier event that brings senior government officers into close contact with entrepreneurial security firms. In related activity, Mr. Muir has participated on a panel to assist the Department of Homeland Security in setting the five-year national research priorities for IT security.

Mr. Muir’s unique combination of business and security technology expertise has led to frequent speaker engagements at major security events and numerous published articles. He is noted for his research on the structure of the IT security industry, particularly in relation to authentication, encryption and mobile devices, and developed security courseware for the National Center for Manufacturing Services (NCMS). Mr. Muir also actively participates in the Keiretsu Forum, one of the nation’s largest angel investment organizations.

Mr. Muir has a degree in International Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He resides in northern California with his wife of 34 years and has four children.
